Safety technical requirements of glass for ships
1 Scope
This document specifies the safety technical requirements for ships and describes the corresponding test method.
This document is applicable to the production, inspection, delivery and acceptance of tempered glass for ship portholes, tempered glass for rectangular windows and electrically heated glass for rectangular windows.
2 Normative references
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
GB 11614-2022 Flat glass
GB/T 39798-2021 Test methods for optical properties of glass used on multiple units
GB/T 42125.10 Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use - Part 10: Particular requirements for measurement equipment for insulation resistance and test equipment for electric strength
3 Terms and definitions
No terms and definitions are listed in this document.
4 Materials and composition
The raw glass used for tempered glass and electrically heated glass shall meet the requirements of the Premium Processing Grade specified in GB 11614-2022.
The electrically heated glass consists of load-bearing glass, cover glass, heating elements and intermediate layers.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 General
Tempered glass, electrically heated glass and load-bearing glass of electrically heated glass shall be as specified in Table 1.

5.2 Punching strength
Tempered glass and load-bearing glass of electrically heated glass shall neither be broken nor exhibit damage when subjected to the test loads specified in Table 2.

5.3 Insulation resistance
The insulation resistance of each part of the electrically heated glass shall not be less than 50MΩ.
5.4 Electric strength
During the test, the electrically heated glass shall exhibit no breakdown or flashover, and the leakage current shall not be greater than 5mA.
5.5 Heating uniformity
5.5.1 Requirements for temperature uniformity
During the heating test, the maximum temperature difference within the heated zone of the specimen shall not be greater than 10℃.
5.5.2 Requirements for defects in the heated zone
While the specimen is heated, the defects (phenomena of being irregularly heated) in the heated zone shall meet the following requirements:
a) The density of defects generated while the specimen is heated shall not obstruct or affect the line of sight;
b) A colorless stress line with a width ≤1mm, caused by a temperature difference between heated zones, is permitted;
c) For electrically heated glass heated by conductive film, visible defects caused by hot spots in the film layer in the heated zone shall be as specified in Table 3;
d) For electrically heated glass heated by electric heating wires, defects such as ineffectively heated zones or overheated zones caused by discontinuous power shall be as specified in Table 4.
Table 3 Requirements for defects in the heated zone (when heated by conductive film)
Defect diameter (d) Requirement
d ≤ 5mm —
5mm < d ≤ 10mm ≤ 3 such defects
d > 10mm Not permitted
Table 4 Requirements for defects in the heated zone (when heated by electric heating wire)
Width of ineffectively heated zone/overheated zone (W) Requirement
W ≤ 5mm —
5mm < W ≤ 15mm Not more than 2 such defects, with the spacing not less than 45mm
W > 15mm Not permitted
